Daily Devotions (Sermon-Based)

Here's a 5-day Bible reading plan and devotional guide based on the themes from the sermon entitled "It's Not What It Looks Like"

Day 1: God's Covenant Faithfulness Reading: Genesis 15:1-21, Joshua 1:1-9

Devotional: God's covenant with Abraham and its fulfillment through Joshua reminds us of His unwavering faithfulness. Just as God kept His promise to Abraham over centuries, He remains faithful to us today. Reflect on the promises God has made in your life. How has He demonstrated His faithfulness, even when circumstances seemed impossible? Consider writing down specific instances of God's faithfulness to you as a testament to His enduring love and commitment.

Day 2: Divine Justice and Mercy Reading: Deuteronomy 9:1-6, Matthew 15:21-28

Devotional: God's justice and mercy often seem paradoxical to us. In Deuteronomy, we see God's judgment against wickedness, while in Matthew, Jesus extends mercy to a Canaanite woman. This juxtaposition reveals God's complex nature - He is both just and merciful. How do you reconcile God's justice with His mercy in your own life? Pray for discernment to understand God's ways, even when they challenge your perceptions, and for the courage to trust in His perfect wisdom.

Day 3: The Danger of Partial Obedience Reading: Joshua 10:29-43, Judges 2:1-15

Devotional: The Israelites' incomplete obedience led to future struggles. Often, we too fall into the trap of partial obedience, thinking it's enough. But God calls us to full surrender. Examine areas in your life where you might be holding back from complete obedience to God. What fears or doubts are preventing you from fully trusting Him? Ask God for the strength to surrender these areas, remembering that His plans for you are good.

Day 4: God's Presence in Our Battles Reading: Joshua 3:5-17, Ephesians 6:10-18

Devotional: Just as God fought for Israel, He fights for us today. Our battles may look different - perhaps internal struggles or spiritual warfare - but God's presence remains constant. Reflect on the challenges you're facing. How can you invite God into these situations? Put on the full armor of God, recognizing that your strength comes not from yourself, but from His mighty power working within you.

Day 5: The Promise of Eternal Hope Reading: Revelation 21:1-7, Romans 8:18-25

Devotional: While the Old Testament often focuses on earthly promises, the New Testament expands our view to eternal hope. Our current struggles pale in comparison to the glory that awaits us. How does this eternal perspective change how you view your current circumstances? Let this hope be an anchor for your soul, encouraging you to persevere through trials and to live with joyful expectation of God's ultimate redemption.
