Daily Devotions (Sermon-Based)

Here's a 5-day Bible reading plan and devotional guide based on the themes from the sermon entitled "A Call to Covenant Faithfulness: Joshua's Farewell Charge "

Day 1: Standing on God's Faithfulness

Reading: Joshua 23:1-5, Philippians 2:12-13

Devotional: Joshua gathered Israel's leaders to remind them of one fundamental truth: God had fought for them. As we stand at the threshold of new seasons, we must look back with gratitude at God's faithfulness. Every victory, every provision, every moment of grace points to His active presence in our lives. We didn't build what we have; we stand on shoulders of faithful saints who came before us. Yet God isn't finished. He who began a good work will complete it. The same God who parted the Jordan still works today—not by our might or power, but by His Spirit. As you reflect today, ask: Where have I seen God's faithfulness? How does remembering His past provision strengthen my faith for tomorrow's challenges?

Day 2: The Call to Courageous Obedience

Reading: Joshua 23:6-8, James 1:22-25

Devotional: "Be very strong to keep and do all that is written in the book of the law." Joshua's charge wasn't about selective obedience—it was a call to complete surrender. In our culture, we face constant pressure to compromise, to soften difficult truths, to accommodate rather than transform. But kingdom initiatives require full obedience to God's Word. We cannot pick and choose which commands suit our preferences. Jesus is Lord, not consultant. When we surrendered to Christ, we were bought with a price—we are no longer our own. This doesn't mean isolation from culture, but engagement with grace and truth. Like Jesus with the woman caught in adultery, we offer compassion without compromise. Today, examine your heart: Are there areas where you've compromised obedience for comfort?

Day 3: Clinging to God in a Compromising World

Reading: Joshua 23:9-13, James 1:27, 1 Peter 1:15-17

Devotional: "Be very careful, therefore, to love the Lord your God." Love for God is not passive emotion—it's active, willful devotion. Joshua warned Israel against mixing with pagan nations, not from prejudice, but from protection. When we compromise with worldly values, we invite snares and traps into our spiritual lives. Today's church faces the same challenge: how do we remain in the world without becoming of the world? We're called to be holy—set apart—while still engaging our culture redemptively. This requires intentionality. Keep yourself unspotted from the world by maintaining spiritual disciplines even when you don't feel like it. Read Scripture when it seems dry. Pray when heaven feels silent. Worship when your heart is heavy. This is love—choosing faithfulness regardless of feeling.

Day 4: God Keeps Every Promise

Reading: Joshua 23:14-16, Romans 8:1, Hebrews 12:5-11

Devotional: "Not one word has failed of all the good things the Lord your God promised." God's faithfulness extends to every promise—both blessing and discipline. On this side of the cross, we live under a new covenant. There is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. Yet God, as a loving Father, disciplines every child He receives. His correction isn't punishment—it's protective refinement. When we wander from His ways, He lovingly redirects us back to the path of life. This should inspire both confidence and holy reverence. We can trust God completely because He has never failed His people. Yet we must maintain a healthy fear of the Lord—not terror, but awe at His holiness and majesty. Today, examine yourself: Are there areas where God is lovingly correcting you? Will you receive His discipline as evidence of His love?

Day 5: Grace, Truth, and Kingdom Mission

Reading: John 1:14, John 8:1-11, Matthew 22:37-40

Devotional: Jesus came full of grace and truth—the perfect balance we must embody as His church. All grace without truth leads people lovingly to hell. All truth without grace drives people away from the only One who can save them. Jesus met the woman caught in adultery with compassion that didn't compromise: "Neither do I condemn you. Go and sin no more." This is our model for engaging a broken culture. We have a clear mission: glorify God, love people, and make disciples. This requires courage to speak truth and compassion to meet people where they are—knowing Jesus loves them too much to leave them there. As you step into your week, ask: How can I demonstrate both grace and truth today? Who needs to experience Jesus' compassion without compromise through me? The harvest is plentiful. Will you be faithful?
