Daily Devotions (Sermon-Based)

Here's a 5-day Bible reading plan and devotional guide based on the themes from the sermon entitled "Peter's Prescription for Pilgrim Progress"

Day 1: Chosen by God Reading: 1 Peter 1:1-5

Devotional: Peter reminds us that we are "elect according to the foreknowledge of God." This profound truth should fill us with awe and gratitude. God chose us before the foundation of the world, not because of our merit, but because of His abundant mercy. Reflect on what it means to be chosen by God. How does this knowledge impact your daily life and decisions? Consider how you can live in a way that honors this divine selection. Remember, your inheritance is "incorruptible and undefiled," reserved in heaven. Let this eternal perspective guide you through earthly challenges.

Day 2: Living as Pilgrims Reading: 1 Peter 2:11-12

Devotional: As believers, we are "sojourners and pilgrims" in this world. Our true citizenship is in heaven, yet God has placed us here with a purpose. How can you embody this pilgrim mentality in your daily life? Consider areas where you might be too attached to worldly concerns. Peter encourages us to have "honorable conduct among the Gentiles." Today, focus on how your actions and attitudes can reflect Christ to those around you, even in the face of criticism or misunderstanding. Your faithful witness may lead others to "glorify God in the day of visitation."

Day 3: The Transforming Power of New Birth Reading: John 3:1-8 and 1 Peter 1:22-25

Devotional: Jesus told Nicodemus that one must be "born again" to see the kingdom of God. Peter echoes this, reminding us that we have been "born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible." This new birth is not just a one-time event, but an ongoing transformation. How has your life changed since coming to faith in Christ? Reflect on areas where you still need growth and renewal. Ask the Holy Spirit to continue His sanctifying work in your life, making you more like Christ each day. Remember, this new life comes through the living and abiding word of God – commit to nourishing yourself daily with Scripture.

Day 4: Kept by God's Power Reading: John 17:11-19

Devotional: In His high priestly prayer, Jesus asked the Father to "keep" His disciples. This same prayer extends to us today. We are kept by the power of God through faith. In a world full of challenges and temptations, how does it comfort you to know that God is actively guarding and protecting your faith? However, Jesus didn't pray for us to be taken out of the world, but to be kept from the evil one. Consider how you can engage with the world around you while remaining distinctly set apart for God's purposes. Ask God for wisdom to navigate this balance in your specific circumstances.

Day 5: Living with Eternal Hope Reading: 1 Peter 1:3-9

Devotional: Peter praises God for giving us a "living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead." This hope is not wishful thinking, but a confident expectation based on the reality of Christ's victory over death. How does this eternal perspective change the way you view current trials or sufferings? Peter says that the genuineness of your faith, being tested by fire, is "more precious than gold." Reflect on a recent or ongoing challenge. How might God be using this to refine and strengthen your faith? Ask God to help you rejoice even in difficulties, knowing that your faith will result in "praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ."
