Daily Devotions (Sermon-Based)
Here's a 5-day Bible reading plan and devotional guide based on the themes from the sermon entitled "Do This in Remembrance of Me"
Day 1: Remembering God's Faithfulness Reading: Joshua 4:1-24
Devotional: As we read about the Israelites crossing the Jordan River, we're reminded of God's faithfulness in guiding His people. The memorial stones serve as a powerful symbol of remembrance. Just as God instructed Joshua to set up these stones, He often places reminders in our lives of His goodness and grace. Reflect on the "stones" in your life - experiences, relationships, or moments that testify to God's faithfulness. How can you share these stories with others, especially the next generation? Today, consider creating your own memorial - perhaps journaling about a time God showed up in your life in a significant way.
Day 2: The Power of God's Presence Reading: Exodus 33:12-23
Devotional: Moses' desire to see God's glory reminds us of our deep need for divine presence. Like the Ark of the Covenant that led the Israelites, God's presence goes before us in our daily lives. However, we often forget or fail to recognize it. Today, practice being aware of God's presence. As you go about your routine, pause periodically and acknowledge that God is with you. How does this awareness change your perspective on challenges you face? Consider ways you can cultivate a greater sense of God's presence in your life, perhaps through prayer, worship, or moments of silent reflection.
Day 3: Passing on Faith Reading: Deuteronomy 6:4-9
Devotional: The importance of passing on faith to the next generation is a recurring theme in Scripture. Just as the Israelites were instructed to teach their children about God's mighty acts, we too have a responsibility to share our faith. Reflect on your own faith journey. Who were the key people who influenced your spiritual growth? How can you play a similar role in someone else's life? Consider practical ways you can share your faith story with others, whether it's with your children, friends, or even strangers. Remember, your testimony of God's work in your life is a powerful tool for encouraging others.
Day 4: Remembering Christ's Sacrifice Reading: 1 Corinthians 11:23-26
Devotional: The Lord's Supper serves as a powerful reminder of Christ's sacrifice for us. Just as the Passover feast helped the Israelites remember their deliverance from Egypt, communion helps us remember our deliverance from sin. Take time today to reflect deeply on what Christ's death and resurrection mean to you personally. How has it changed your life? In what ways are you living out the freedom and purpose Christ's sacrifice has given you? Consider ways you can make the practice of communion (whether in church or personal reflection) more meaningful in your spiritual life.
Day 5: Living Memorials Reading: 2 Corinthians 3:2-3
Devotional: Paul describes believers as "living letters" known and read by everyone. In essence, our lives are meant to be living memorials of God's grace and transforming power. Just as the wristbands in the sermon served as conversation starters, our lives should prompt curiosity in others about our faith. Reflect on how your life might be "read" by others. What does it communicate about your relationship with God? Are there areas where you need to allow God's transforming work to be more evident? Pray for opportunities to share your faith story with others, and for the courage to live authentically as a follower of Christ in all aspects of your life.
