Daily Devotions (Sermon-Based)

Here's a 5-day Bible reading plan and devotional guide based on the themes from the sermon entitled "Following God When Facing Challenges"

Day 1: Preparing for God's Purpose Reading: Joshua 3:1-5

Devotional: Just as Joshua and the Israelites prepared to cross the Jordan, God calls us to prepare our hearts for His work in our lives. Reflect on areas where you may need to "consecrate" yourself - setting aside worldly distractions and focusing on God's holiness. How can you create space in your life to better hear God's voice and anticipate His wonders? Consider starting each day this week by rising early and spending time in prayer, asking God to prepare your heart for whatever challenges lie ahead.

Day 2: Trusting God in the Face of Obstacles Reading: Joshua 3:14-17

Devotional: The Israelites faced a seemingly impossible obstacle in the flooded Jordan River. Yet God provided a miraculous way through. What "rivers" are you facing in your life right now? Financial struggles, relationship conflicts, health issues? Remember that no obstacle is too great for our God. He may not always remove the obstacle, but He promises to be with us as we step out in faith. Today, identify one area where you need to trust God more fully. Take a step of faith, however small, knowing that God goes before you.

Day 3: God's Presence in Our Journey Reading: Exodus 33:14-16

Devotional: Moses recognized that God's presence was what set the Israelites apart. In the same way, it's God's presence in our lives that distinguishes us as His people. How aware are you of God's presence in your daily life? Do you seek His guidance in decisions, both big and small? Today, practice being mindful of God's presence. Set reminders throughout the day to pause and acknowledge Him. Ask for His perspective in every situation you face.

Day 4: Overcoming Past Failures Reading: 1 Peter 1:13-16

Devotional: The sermon mentioned feeling like a "betrayer" or "Judas" when failing to follow God's call. Yet God's grace is greater than our failures. Peter, who denied Jesus three times, was restored and became a pillar of the early church. No matter what mistakes you've made, God can redeem your story. Reflect on past failures that still haunt you. Bring them to God in prayer, asking for His forgiveness and healing. Then, like Peter, resolve to move forward in holiness, setting your hope fully on God's grace.

Day 5: Expecting God to Move Reading: Ephesians 3:20-21

Devotional: The sermon challenged us to expect miracles and to be open to how God might move in unexpected ways. Our God is able to do "immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine." Are you living with this kind of expectancy? Or have you settled for a safe, predictable faith? Today, pray boldly for God to move in your life and in the lives of those around you. Be open to how He might answer - it may not look like what you expect. End the week by sharing with someone else how you've seen God work, encouraging them to expect great things from our great God.
