Daily Devotions (Sermon-Based)

Here's a 5-day Bible reading plan and devotional guide based on the themes from the sermon entitled "What Time Is It?"

Day 1: Living with Purpose in God's Time

Reading: 1 Peter 4:1-6

Devotional: As we begin this journey, let's reflect on how we use our time. Peter contrasts the life of believers with unbelievers, urging us to live for God's will rather than human passions. Consider how you've been spending your time lately. Are there areas where you've been "squandering" time on things that don't align with God's purposes? Today, ask God to help you realign your priorities and use your time in ways that honor Him. Remember, our time on earth is limited, but every moment can be an opportunity to glorify God and serve others.

Day 2: Suffering and Joy in Christ

Reading: 1 Peter 4:12-16

Devotional: Peter doesn't shy away from the reality of suffering in the Christian life. Instead, he encourages believers to rejoice in sharing Christ's sufferings. This paradox of joy in suffering is central to our faith. Reflect on a time when you faced challenges because of your faith. How did you respond? Did you experience any unexpected blessings or growth through that difficulty? Today, pray for the strength to face trials with joy, knowing that you're participating in Christ's sufferings and that God is with you in every struggle.

Day 3: Serving with God-given Gifts

Reading: 1 Peter 4:7-11

Devotional: Each of us has been given unique gifts by God to serve others and glorify Him. Peter emphasizes using these gifts as "good stewards of God's varied grace." Take some time to ponder your own gifts and abilities. How are you currently using them to serve others and honor God? Are there new ways you could put your gifts into action for the benefit of your church or community? Ask God to show you opportunities to serve and to give you the courage to step out in faith, using your gifts for His glory.

Day 4: Self-Examination and God's Judgment

Reading: 1 Peter 4:17-19; Luke 6:41-42

Devotional: Peter reminds us that judgment begins with God's household, emphasizing the importance of self-examination. Jesus' teaching about the speck and the plank reinforces this idea. Today, spend time in honest self-reflection. Are there areas of your life where you've been quick to judge others while overlooking your own faults? Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any "planks" in your own eye that need addressing. Remember, this self-examination isn't about condemnation, but about growth and drawing closer to God. Pray for humility and the courage to face your own shortcomings with God's grace.

Day 5: Living in Light of Eternity

Reading: 1 Peter 4:7; Matthew 24:42-44

Devotional: "The end of all things is near," Peter writes, echoing Jesus' teachings about His return. This isn't meant to frighten us, but to motivate us to live with purpose and urgency. How would your life change if you truly lived each day as if it could be your last opportunity to serve God and love others? Today, consider the eternal perspective. Are there relationships that need mending, words of love or forgiveness that need to be spoken, or acts of service you've been putting off? Ask God to help you live with an awareness of eternity, making the most of every opportunity He gives you to reflect His love and grace to the world around you.
